Top Ten Lists

Top Ten Lists.  For me, the Top 10 of the year represents a compiled list of favored movies stacked on top of one another based solely on opinion.  Am I against any such Top 10 list?  No.  Do I favor a Top 10 list?  Again, no.  I have attempted a Top 10 list, as well as a Top 5 list numerous times.  For each time, I really thought that I had something going until, perhaps a couple of days later, I just couldn't keep it up.  How can you compare two movies that are so different?  You can, usually, by the quality of acting, directing, cinematography, overall production value...but two movies that so different, like a war more and a romance movie for example, cannot be compared.

As an amateur film critic, I couldn't resist doing a list of best movies, so I resorted to alphabetical lists, a more simpler method in my opinion.  I use the alphabetical listing of movies in my Significant Films list, a compiled list of movies that I consider to be the greatest and most important of all time, as well as for the best movies of each decade.  In the end, it's all a matter of opinion.

I like looking at other critic's top ten lists of the year, or of the decade.  It gives me an idea of what movies to watch first before others, and you could consider it just a fun, little activity of mine to read off various' peoples lists of best movies.  Typically, I may end up disagreeing with them, but so what?  I hold nothing against anyone for that.  Like I said, film criticism is all about one's particular opinion of a movie.  It's all a matter of opinion.
