Dumb and Dumber (1994, PG-13)

How can I describe Dumb and Dumber?  It's either a movie that you absolutely love, or absolutely hate.  If you love it, you'll watch it over and over again, getting laughs every time.  If you hate it, you'll be left dismissing it as a crude and crass film while wishing you'll never watch it again.  When family and friends of mine talk about this film, they fall into either of the two categories.  Me?  I loved it!  While not genius comedy, Dumb and Dumber is a rare film that mantains laughs throughout.  It's creative, and just plain funny because of the two very talented actors.

Jim Carrey, like the movie itself, is an actor that you either love or hate as a comedian.  At times, Carrey can go over the top but at other times he really is funny.  He's a talented comedian, and that shines at it's best in Dumb and Dumber.  Jeff Daniels is one of the most overlooked actors in Hollywood.  He's such a great actor, one of the few who can actually act in more then one role.  Did you watch him in Gettysburg?  Then watch him in Dumb and Dumber.  You wouldn't believe that it's the same guy.

At times, Dumb and Dumber gets formulaic, and also at times quite crude.  I'm probably making a mistake in giving the star rating I am giving, but like I said, I fall into the category of people who loved it.  I really did enjoy it, I really did laugh.  Dumb and Dumber cracks off jokes and fun moments you won't find in other movies.  How many times have I watched Dumb and Dumber?  I can't count.  What carries it all the way through is it's two very talented actors, Carrey and Daniels, who work so great together, and alone make Dumb and Dumber a very good comedy, though that depends on the way you look at it.
