Overrated Movies

I can do a best of the decade list, and a best of all time list (Significant Films).  I plan on doing a worst of all time list, but first I feel like I should to an Overrated Movies list.  For me, these films, or most of them, are not bad movies at all.  I just don't think that they deserve the amount of praise or acclaim that they have recieved.  As such, I don't necessarily consider list a list of movies to avoid either, as just because I wasn't too fond of a movie doesn't mean that you or anyone else would be either.  Anyway, here goes my list of Overrated Movies, followed by my original rating of the film and a few comments of why they are on this list.  As I watch more movies, I will constantly update this list.

A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Original Rating: * ½
Can any movie seem more artificial and so unenjoyable then this?  I don't think so.  So called groundbreaking special effects can't up the ante at all.  So far, this is the only Steven Spielberg film that simply isn't worth anyone's time.

The Dark Knight
Original Rating: **1/2
Solid acting, a technical achievement, and a slick script is well put into play in the Dark Knight.  But Batman isn't the hero he should have been.  And how could they turn a superhero movie into an overlong crime drama, while lining the second half with an overbearing weight of action?  Though a lot happens here, it ultimately doesn't lead us too much.

Jaws
Original Rating: ***
A well put together summer blockbuster, and, in general, a good movie!...just not a great one.  The focus is on the shark throughout (that can be viewed as a good thing or a bad thing).  In the end, Jaws could have used a bigger boat.

Ocean's Eleven
Original Rating: ** ½
Witty and stylish in a Las Vegas setting.  But as the movie goes on, we are constantly wishing for the ensemble cast to pull off a good movie.  There's also too much build up to the disappointing finale.

The Untouchables
Original Rating: ***
The Untouchables is a good enough gangster flick that can boast riveting set pieces, an authentic feel for the 30s, and an outstanding performance by Sean Connery.  It's not a great movie as it has been acclaimed because it seriously undermines most of it's characters, which ultimately proves to be a hinderence.
