Iron Man (2008, PG-13)

Iron Man wasn’t originally supposed to be a huge success (Iron Man isn’t exactly the most popular Marvel superhero around)—but a huge success it was.  Fairing very well at the box-office and receiving critical acclaim, Iron Man makes a pretty good superhero movie.
The movie follows Tony Stark, the owner of Stark Industries, who is captured by terrorists and builds a suit of armor to break out.  Back at home in Malibu, he builds a better, improved version and thus becomes: Iron Man.  The movie has a lighter tone, and is a little funny at times to keep the movie going and entertaining.
Iron Man doesn’t have as much action scenes as other superhero films, but this is done to focus on the character of Stark and he becoming Iron Man, but people wanting action-packed superhero stuff might be a little disappointed but pleased other wise.
Robert Downey Jr. does a fine acting performance as middle-aged playboy Tony Stark, who starts off arrogant but ends up realizing a few things in life and builds himself the cool Iron Man suit, wanting it gold with some ‘hot rod red in there’.
Iron Man makes a good superhero movie for those who do like superhero movies, and should be for those who don’t.  So far, it’s the best of the Marvel superhero movies, surpassing those like the Spider-Man, X-Men and Hulk film series.
Grade: B+
