Australia (2008, PG-13)

This epic set in 1940s Australia, Australia follows an upper-class English woman who comes to Australia to manage her dying Australian ranch after her husband is killed by aborigines.  She meets a kid who is half aborigine, half white, and a ranch hand, outdoors guy called ‘Drover’.
The movie is too long, and it just goes on and on without a good ending.  First they have to get the cattle across a long trek back to the town to sell them so the lady can keep her land.  After about almost 2 hours they succeed in getting the cattle there.  The story is good so far and there’s a happy ending.  The movie ends great there.  But then it drags on from cowboy fun to World War II action that only extends the movie for no reason.  The movie should have ended with them successfully bringing the cattle back to the town, the lady keeping her land, and Australia would have been a good movie after all.  But no, it simply goes on with the town being destroyed by Japanese aircraft, and some other things that only extend the movie and makes it go on too long.  And to add to that, this only leads up to a forgettable ending.
Australia went too far to be epic, and really is down under.
