This is the Batman movie that we’ve needed, and been waiting for all this time. Batman Begins tells of how orphaned millionaire Bruce Wayne became his alter-ego: Batman. Batman Begins is the darkest of all the Batman’s yet. The portrayal of Gotham City is dark and gritty. The bad guys ‘the league of shadows’ are very mysterious. But who you get to know is really not Batman, but Bruce Wayne. We get to know his personality, his emotions, and the toll of him being Batman and how it has affected his friends. We see how Bruce Wayne all got started as being Batman.
Batman Begins has given us the most character development that I’ve seen in any superhero movie. The action scenes are filmed well up close and personal though a little too quick.
The biggest downside, and I’m sure that many people will agree with me, is the chemistry of the romance between Bruce Wayne and his long time girlfriend, Rachel Dawes. Their story is allowed to linger on to no avail or purpose. It’s also unfortunate that the movie didn’t come out as strong as it easily could have. But like I said before, Batman Begins is the Batman movie that we’ve both wanted and needed.
While the movie isn’t perfect, it’s the best adaptation of Batman so far, and the film made us actually care for the character of Bruce Wayne. It’s a substantial improvement over the previous Batman idiotic films. Christian Bale, the new actor to take the cape and don the mask, does a very good job portraying Bruce Wayne as a billionaire playboy on the outside but a determined dark hero on the inside.
