Ocean's Eleven: ** ½
Release Date: 2001
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Steven Soderdough
Full of wit and style in a Las Vegas setting. But as the movie goes on, we find ourselves only hoping that the ensemble cast pull off a good movie rather then rooting for them on the big heist. Too much time is spent on the build up to the anticlimatic night of the heist. Has some comedic moments that keep us chuckling.
Ocean's Twelve: ** ½
Release Date: 2004
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Steven Soderdough
European setting is more original, though not as classy as Vegas. Surprisingly amusing and enjoyable.
Cameo appearances by a few other Hollywood stars are a highlight. The actors are evidently having a good time. Has too much simplicity to make this an improvement over the first.
Ocean's Thirteen: **
Release Date: 2007
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Steven Soderdough
Drawn out and tired sequel. Actors feel washed down. Returns back to Las Vegas to relive the so-called greatness of the first movie. Overall a weary concept; the comedy an the action has been tried and done before. Ending is anticlimatic.
October Sky: *** ½
Release Date: 1999
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Joe Johnston
An inspiring, well-acted and thoroughly entertaining movie. That's all that needs to be said about this great film.
Octopussy: ***
Release Date: 1983
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: John Glen
Nice locales in India and Germany. Moore has aged quite a bit, but this is a fun Bond adventure that never loses it's charm.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service: ** ½
Release Date: 1969
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Peter R. Hunt
Poorly edited. Probably the most romantic of the Bond adventures, as it becomes an action-love story. Tragic ending will come as a shock to some. Lazenby has his moments, though fails to shine like former Bond actor Connery did.
Open Range: ** ½
Release Date: 2003
MPAA Rating: R
Director: Kevin Costner
Released to a time when the western is a dying breed. Miscarries in it's strong determination to relive the genre, replaying a basic and familiar western formula. End gunbattle is one of the longest western gunfights put on film.
The Outlaw Josey Wales: ****
Release Date: 1976
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Clint Eastwood
A high-quality, western masterpiece. Eastwood is at the top of his form. Personal and devastating story of a Confederate soldier on the run from enemy Union troops at war's end. Brilliant cinematography and characterization, coupled with amusing scenes and well-placed shootouts.
Overboard: **
Release Date: 1987
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Garry Marshall
A murky comedy about a spoiled woman who suffers amnesia and is tricked into believing she's married to a carpenter and is mom to four kids. Nice premise but still unamusing.
Over the Top: **
Release Date: 1987
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Menahem Golan
A star vehicle for Stallone about a truck driver who arm wrestles while struggling to raise his reluctant son. Simple minded and never all that inspiring. A pure 80s movie.
