Hancock: **
Release Date: 2008
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Peter Berg
Crude, vulgar, and just unfunny. This gives a try at a superhero comedy for a change, but the results simply do not work. Movie is short, weak and totally uninspiring.
Hang em High: ** ½
Release Date: 1970
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Ted Post
Eastwood's first American made western isn't bad but not near to his best. A man is wrongly accused of a crime and hanged by a gang of rustlers; he survives, is cared for and eventually becomes a US Marshall to seek revenge on the men who hanged him.
Heaven Can Wait: * ½
Release Date: 1978
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Warren Beatty, Buck Henry
Good natured, but everyone here is miscast. This film is uninvolving, slow moving, and plods along until the very end.
Hidalgo: ** ½
Release Date: 2004
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Joe Johnston
A rip-roaring Disney action venture on the Arabian sands. It's a fun movie based on myths and legends over true events, which means we feel that it's unbelievable.
Home Alone: ***
Release Date: 1990
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Chris Columbus
Funny, little holiday movie about a kid who's left behind at his house when his family go on their Christmas vacation in Paris, and defeats a duo of crooks using a vareity of booby traps. Clever, comedic and entertaining, and though it isn't worth much beyond that, it's still worth a look.
Home Alone 2, Lost in New York: **
Release Date: 1992
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Chris Columbus
Basically a rehash of the first film that doesn't offer any new funny moments, even though, as the title suggests, the location is changed from the kid's house to New York.
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: **
Release Date: 1989
MPAA Rating: PG
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: Joe Johnston
An interesting fillm that spawned a number of theme part rides and needless sequels. Mildly amusing.
Hoosiers: ***
Release Date: 1986
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: David Anspaugh
Immensely entertaining drama about a down on their luck basketball team who steadily rise through the ranks with help from their new coach. An ennobling sports film that finds a way to be charming even though it's nothing new.The Horse Soldiers: **
Release Date: 1959
MPAA Rating: NR
Director: John Ford
A Civil War story about Union cavalry troops who sneak behind Confederate lines. With John Wayne leading the way, how can anything go wrong? Very forgettable and slowly paced.
How the West was Won: **
Release Date: 1962
MPAA Rating: G
Director: John Ford, Henry Hathaway, George Marshall
A western with an ensemble cast in epic formation. It's a film that has ambition, but also one that lacks excitement, and so we quickly lose interest as the narrative goes on. Even western fanatics will most likely be disappointed in this one.
Hulk: **
Release Date: 2003
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Ang Lee
Character of the Hulk is turned into a CGI effect, turning him into a detatched and unlikeable hero. Poor editing choice tries to give the film a comic book feel, but only succeeds in making the film hard to look at. Muddled, cartoonish and overlong.
The Hunt for Red October: *** ½
Release Date: 1990
MPAA Rating: PG
Director: John McTiernan
This is the first installment in the Jack Ryan film series. A very well-made submarine pic, which unlike most thrillers, has a mind. Complex and intricate, with a prominent performance by Sean Connery.
