2011...so far

So far, 2011 has hardly anything all that swell to offer.  Last year (2010) saw a succession of good motion pictures, but the year was also marred by a number of senseless, utterly pointless movies.  Nevertheless, 2010 also did see generally strong results at the box-office.

2011 is a year bombarded with a mix of sequels and original films: the Adjustment Bureau, Source Code, Super 8 and the Tree of Life are proving to be original ideas.  But Cars 2, Pirates 4 and Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocal are just a few of the many sequels that plague this year.

This is way too early to start guessing, but for the heck of it, what could be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars?  It seems, so far at least, that there's nothing here really worth that much value, other then maybe Terrence Malick's the Tree of Life which is garning critical praise, but also which I have yet to see.

All sad, all true.  2011 may go down as one of the weakest movie years in history.  Box-office results so far seem to be going well, but the quality of the movies themselves are nothing that outstanding.
