Wow, were the critical reviews right or what? I Dreamed of Africa has some of the roughest editing I have ever seen in a film! In addition, the direction by Hugh Hudson is subpar and not on terms with the story.
It's based off of a true story, based on events in the life of Kuki Gallmann (Kim Basinger), who moved to live in Kenya with her new husband and young son.
There are a few shots of the beautiful Kenyan landscapes, and parts of the film are entertaining while other parts are predictable. We see plenty of African animals and all, and actually I thought that Basinger was convincing in the lead role. I guess I don't think it was fair that she received a Razzie nomination for Worst Actress in this film.
If you're expecting a drama like Out of Africa or something, you won't recieve much. After the credits rolled (I watched this with my family), both my parents said that they really liked it. In a way, I wanted to like I Dreamed of Africa. But when it gets down to criticizing a movie, I could not.
