Finding Nemo (2003, G)

Finding Nemo, directed by Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkirch, is probably, arguably, Pixar’s best movie.  That’s because the story is so great, the animation is so great, and the entertainment is so great.  At this point, I have watched every Pixar movie and most of them more than once.  We all know what a good Pixar movie is like: great animation, a worthy, morale story, funny entertainment, etc. the list could go on.

Of every Pixar film, Finding Nemo may not be the absolute best according to everyone, but it is my favorite.

The film is set beneath the seas in the Great Coral Reef, off the coast of Australia.  A clownfish named Marlin (voiced by Albert Brooks) has set off on a great quest to save his only son, Nemo (voiced by Alexander Gould), who has been captured by divers and placed in an aquarium tank in a dentist office.  Marlin joins forces with a Blue Tang Fish named Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres), and the two go through many obstacles in trying to find and save Nemo: a group of sharks abstaining from eating fish, jellyfish, high-speeding turtles, a giant blue whale and more.

Finding Nemo is one of those rare movies where you just wanna sit and let the film captivate you.  You don't worry about whatever else is going on in your life; you just sit there immersed in the movie.  The animation is, hands down, the best I’ve seen in any animated film.  I remember when I was just a kid, first watching this in the theater, and I was so enthralled by it.  The filmmakers show the glory of the Great Coral Reef, as well as many different fish and other underwater sea creatures swimming around and about.  I even learned a few facts and information about underwater marine life.

In addition the film is, at times, quite funny.  I laughed quite a lot actually, and the characters are all loveable.

I can only comment yet again at how grand and breathtaking the animation is that captured my mind.

A Pixar movie is a Pixar movie.  And yes, Finding Nemo is a Pixar movie. And yet, Finding Nemo has a rare quality of being one of the greatest and most treasured animated films ever made.  I might even go as far as calling it a milestone in animation.

If this is not the, or one of the, greatest animated films ever made, then it is, at the very least, the greatest Pixar movie ever made.  This is a must see film, no matter how much you may not be a fan of Pixar (and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like Pixar).  Finding Nemo is visually stunning, a breathtaking film, and one that will never, as far as I can tell, be forgotten.  In that sense, as a piece of cinema, Finding Nemo is a treasure.
