Wow. The epic novel by Alexandre Dumas has been brought to film yet again. This is a televised remake of the classic 1934 movie. When I saw wow, I was referring to the fact about how dry, dull and unentertaining this pic is. Dumas himself, I will guarantee, would be be dreadfully disappointed with this that squanders his novel.
The film omits several characters from the novel (as do both the 1934 and the 2002 versions). Richard Chamberlain, who played the title role, was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor! Forget that! Just like the movie itself, Chamberlain delivered such a dry performance.
I watched this when I was sick one day. I was flipping through channels, this was coming on in a few minutes, I thought, ah what the heck? When your not feeling very well, this movie doesn't help out at all. I had already seen the 2002 version, which was an entertaining action-swashbuckling pic. This take is a slowly-paced, dull version, that does not even add a drop of life into it. It is directed by David Greene.
