Star Wars Episode 2, Attack of the Clones (2002, PG)

The prequel trilogy of Star Wars continues with Attack of the Clones.  The Attack of the Clones is the most romantic of the entire Star Wars story, but throughout the movie, until the last minute (literally), it doesn’t get anywhere.  This is because (the movie is set 10 years after The Phantom Menace and 20 years before A New Hope) Anakin and Padme meet again.  Anakin is assigned to protect Padme, but their relationship just doesn’t get anywhere through the movie.
Much more engaging is Obi-Wan learning about a new clone army for the republic that eventually leads up to a massive and visually impressive battle in the desert at the end of the movie, fought between the Republic’s clone army and the Separatists’ robot ‘droid’ army.  Behind the plot is Darth Sidious from The Phantom Menace and Count Dooku, who quit the Jedi Order some 20 years ago.
Attack of the Clones doesn't accordingly explore more into the Star Wars saga, rather exploring more into special effects. The movie sadly has the worst script writing of the series, Lucas’s writing having obviously gone down after the Phantom Menace.  Attack of the Clones is the weakest installment of the saga, but most of it was still entertaining and Star Wars fun, even though the movie is a little far from flawless.
Grade: C+
