Spider-Man 3 (2007, PG-13)

There are too many villains, too many subplots in Spider-Man 3, the 3rd installment in the high successful Spider-Man franchise.  The first two films kept one villain; there are three in Spider-Man 3 (what a coincidence).
The movie also has way too many subplots that try to make the movie complex and intricate but only make it more confusing and pointless at times, and ultimately drag on the story.  For instance, Parker’s friend turns into the evil new goblin, then he turns good, then he turns evil again, and then he turns good again the end to be killed off heroically.  The movie also has a generally darker tone than its predecessors.  Once again, as with the previous two films, the main subplot would be Parker and his girlfriend, but yet again their story goes on and on.
Fortunately enough, most of Spider-Man 3 continues to take from the comic book, like the previous two films, and stays to what Stan Lee envisioned for his web-slinging hero, but he probably didn’t want all of the elements combined to form a mess like this.  The film follows Spider-Man sudden decline followed by his sudden big comeback.
Tobey Maguire did a good acting performance in Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, but this time he himself went too far, following along with the rest of the movie.
The first Spider-Man was good, the sequel was underwhelming despite the rave reviews it received, and the 3rd movie is the worst of the three yet—Spider-Man 3 experimented by going to far and failed.
