The Lord of the Rings, the Two Towers is the sequel to The Lord of the Rings, the Fellowship of the Ring and is based on the second part in J.R.R Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. This time, the fellowship of the ring that was formed in the first movie has been broken, and now Frodo and his friend Sam continue to journey to Mt. Doom while the other surviving members travel on to help defend the country of Rohan against the armies of the evil wizard Saruman, who has joined Sauron’s side in the war to conquer Middle-Earth.
The Two Towers introduces new characters who are also featured in the 3rd movie, The Return of the King. It didn’t surpass The Fellowship of the Ring in any particular way, but it’s still a 3 hour long fantasy epic that grossed even more then its predecessor. The special effects are amazing: Gollum will be remembered by many people and the climatic finale, the Battle of Helm’s Deep, has been rated the best medieval battle in movie history, a title that I think it should have been for sure been nominated for.
Here’s the thing, none of the Lord of the Rings films are weak. The trilogy was filmed together in 1999-2000, with bits and pieces for each trilogy being filmed in 2001-2003. Peter Jackson does a good job again with capturing Tolkien’s vision of Middle-Earth.
The Two Towers ends in a cliffhanger again, just as the first film did, leading to the final installment, the Return of the King, based on the third part of Tolkien’s book.
