Iron Man 2 (2010, PG-13)

Iron Man 2, the sequel to Iron Man, plainly isn’t as good as the first film.  The movie continues to follow billionaire playboy Tony Stark’s life, who has revealed his identity to the world by now and is saving the United States from several dangers in his high-tech Iron Man suite.  But a new villain is rising up, and using Stark’s technology.
In the first Iron Man, we got to see Stark’s character development as he changed from a billionaire playboy to the superhero saving his town from the villain.  Iron Man 2 lacks that and this time it’s all about Stark saving the world will dealing with his alcohol problem and arrogance.
The movie keeps the light tone of the first movie and does have some funny moments in it (my favorite being a surprise television cameo appearance by political news commentator Bill O’Reilly).  But it lacks the character development of the first movie so that we got to know the characters well.
Robert Downey Jr. reprises his role as Stark, and gives pretty much the same performance as from before.
Iron Man 2 has a little more action scenes than its predecessor, but again the action scenes aren’t top notch, just like the first film that was mostly otherwise pretty good.  Iron Man 2 should please Iron Man fans and some people, but it just doesn’t have what made the first movie really good.
Grade: C+
