A Few Good Men (1992, R): *** ½
A Few Good Men is an excellent demonstration of how convincing acting, a smart screenplay and a strong story can all combine to make a powerful motion picture. Granted, the film’s last twenty minutes don’t exactly live up to the first two hours, mainly because by that point, a Few Good Men runs out of most of its steam, and so those last twenty minutes played out formulaically just as I expected. Even so, the entire film, from beginning to end, is seriously entertaining, shot through with excellent acting performances and a neat, stylish script that conveys strong instances of humor and other moments of real drama. There really isn’t ever a dull moment during the duration of this two and a half hour motion picture, even if the ending does feel a little rushed. Of all the courtroom dramas I’ve seen, a Few Good Men is one of the best, only falling behind the 1962 classic, to Kill a Mockingbird. Directed by Rob Reiner.
