The Bodyguard (1992, R): **
My blog runs somewhere along the like this: all the movies that I have watched I write a brief capsule review and award a star rating. I also include the name of the director, the year the film was released and MPAA rating that film received. These films are then stored into the film archive. I write full reviews like this for movies when: 1. I simply feel like writing a review for a particular movie, whether it’s good or bad 2. All films included into my Significant Films list I have written reviews for, or 3. I think the movie is important enough for me to write a review. The Bodyguard is not a good movie, though also not a truly bad one, and the reason I am still writing a full review for it falls into the first category. The Bodyguard movie is a movie supposed to be a thriller; I say that, because it lacks any kind of genuine suspense. The basic plot of the film is pretty much explained in the title; the rest we can figure out for ourselves: the bodyguard is hired to protect a celebrity from an assassin. The bodyguard’s name is Frank Farmer, and he’s pretty much as humorless as movie heroes can get. The rest of the movie is practically plotless. For all of these flaws however, the Bodyguard is extremely likeable. The two lead stars are likeable. The premise is likeable. Practically the entire movie is likeable. Thanks but no thanks to that; I think I’ll stick to thrillers that are actually thrilling in the future. Directed by Ted Post.
