The Best of 2010

2010 was generally regarded to be a weak movie year. While generally successful financially, 2010 did suffer from a few box-office flops and several movies received deriding critical reviews. While I watched quite a few downers, there were also some great and instantly movies as well! The Social Network became the most recent movie that made it to my 'Significant Films' list, a very rare feat to achieve by my standards. Anyway, here is my list of the best of 2010:

5. The King's Speech
While slightly overrated, the King's Speech makes the best of the year list with impressive, Oscar worthy production set, costumes production values, acting, script writing and direction. Overall, this is much better then a lot of other useless movie trash of the year. Here is a movie that can be both inspiring and very well made at the same time.

4. Toy Story 3
Pixar is definitely back on track with Toy Story 3, which is sufficiently better then previous Pixar outings in Cars, Ratatouille, and Wall-E, while still not becoming as groundbreaking or visually stunning as some of the earlier Pixar flicks. The biggest box-office hit of the year is also one of the best of the year. Though not as great as the first two installments, Toy Story 3 enthralls and entertains with continuing, impressive Pixar animation, lots of fun moments and impressive vocals. This is undoubtedly the best family movie in years, and serves as a satisfying conclusion to the Toy Story trilogy.

3. True Grit
The best western in years, True Grit revives the genre right when it needed it. Jeff Bridges ousts the Duke in his role as US Marshall Rooster Cogburn, and the Coen brothers masterfully direct this picture with impressive cinematography shots, outstanding production values, and a very talented cast. This is a great movie that reminds me why we got to the theaters in the first place.

2. Inception
Easily the most intricate film in years, Inception is also one of the most brilliantly conceived, entertaining and well filmed. Inception is Christopher Nolan's best motion picture yet. Inception can boast acting performances worthy of Oscar standards, character development, incredible computer graphics, memorable action sequences, a dazzling music score and a very well put together editing job. Here is a rare movie that demands your thorough attention, and will leave you thinking beyond what you could have possibly imagined.

1. The Social Network
A brilliant work of pure genius, the Social Network just may be best picture of the decade. The screenplay, by Aaron Sorkin, is the best written screenplay in years, possibly decades, and the acting goes above and beyond the Oscars. The Social Network gives you a completely different kind of movie to look at, being so dramatic and thorougly engaging. This spawns an entirely new breed of filmmaking.
