Invincible (2006, PG)

Invincible is one of those film's that's a good movie, but not a great one.  I liked it well-enough because it was appropriate, sometimes entertaining, and based on a true story so that it seemed more convincing and true to life.

It's based on the life of Vince Papale (Mark Wahlberg), who defied the odds by joining the Philadelphia Eagles at the age of 30, just after his wife left him and he is financially ruined.

Invincible is directed by Ericson Core.

Of course, it gets to be predictable from the first 10 minutes, once the status of the characters has been established.  After that, we get a little fun watching Papale defeat the odds and make the cut to become part of the team, partly because of the help of coach Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear).

Is Invincible a must see film?  Probably not.  It's no Rudy by any standards, but as a film to sit down and watch to pass the time, then it's actually quite nice.

                                           *** ½ /5
