Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009, PG-13)

Apparently, director Michael Bay didn’t thing that there were enough fights, explosions, shooting, action sequences, crude remarks or bad language in the first Transformers.  I’m not crazy about the first installment, but I liked it well enough because I thought it made for a better summer action popcorn flick.

I only need to skim over the plot: Sam Witwicky, the hero from the first movie, is going to college this year, and yet again gets caught up in the continuing war between the Autobots and the Decepticons.  Only this time there are more robots, more action set pieces, more explosions, etc, so that the entire film is a heavy mess.  And it’s all stretched unbearably out to over 2 ½ hours in length.

This horrendous sequel out grossed the first installment with almost, though not quite, 900 million bucks at the box-office, becoming the second-highest grossing movie of the year (after Avatar of course).  It definitely got what it deserved when it was panned by film critics and won Worse Picture of the Year at the Golden Raspberry Awards.

I can only go so long on talking about what a bad experience this was for me.  I can still vividly remember sitting the theater room, watching the previews and waiting for the main event.  When I got out of the theater, I was exhausted and very disappointed.  I cannot deny that this is one of the most exhausting movies I’ve ever seen.

In addition, Revenge of the Fallen is too inappropriate for kids.  I mean, Transformers was made as a kid’s toy franchise, so kids will flock to watch Transformers by any means necessary.  Revenge of the Fallen is overstuffed with crude remarks and bad language from beginning to end.

So there it is: Revenge of the Fallen is the biggest disappointment of the year, not because we expected it to be an awesome movie in the first place, but because we at least expected it to be a fun ride.
