Movies of 2010

Overall, 2010 was a mainly good year for movies, although there were also a few downers.  Movies I have watched and reviewed that were released in 2010 (reviews for ones I haven't posted yet will be coming soon):

True Grit: A

Overall, the Social Network, Inception and True Grit without a doubt were the best movies of the year.  The Social Network was the movie event of 2010, a superb quality film that's going to the Oscars.  Inception was one of the best action flicks in a long time, the rare Hollywood action adventure that succeeds anymore.  Not only was True Grit the best western in years, probably even in decades, it was also impressively staged, acted and directed. 

Movies like Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time, Robin Hood, Red and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader weren't bad films, but simply put could have been better.  They were mostly enjoyable.  Prince of Persia was a surprise, as it was a video-game movie adaptation that fared pretty good overall.  Robin Hood was an underrated movie, a more unique take on the famous story.  Red was fun and entertaining, but had slightly too under quality.  The Voyage of the Dawn Treader was less then what I was originally expecting, but it brought it up by reintroducing the Narnian magic that was in the first Narnia film.  For the animated films, Despicable Me was a good family flick, though it obviously borrowed from some of Pixar's movies.  Pixar also released a movie this year, Toy Story 3.  While Toy Story 3 was the best animated family film of the year, it also relied on a formula based on the previous Toy Story entries, but this third istallment ended the critically acclaimed series strongly.

Disappointing films of the year: Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the Lightning Thief.  The first Iron Man was a very good superhero film; it's 2010 sequel utterly failed to match up to it.  Iron Man 2 wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either.  Overall, it was just okay.  Clash of the Titans was mainly what I had expected, an action filled remake that was not that good of a movie.  Percy Jackson did not make that good of cinema at all.

Hopefully, I will get to watch a few more 2010 movies on DVD or on TV that I haven't seen yet.  If so, I will post reviews for them as well.
