The Chronicles of Narnia, Prince Caspian (2008, PG)

A sequel to the hit fantasy film the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian has the action and entertainment but lacks the ‘deep Narnian magic’ feeling that was strong in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

A year after the events in the previous movie, the Pevensie kids, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy, are taken back to Narnia, where a thousand years have passed in Narnian time.  Since then, people called the Telmarines, have overtaken Narnia and the Narnian creatures have gone into hiding.  The Pevensie kids team up with Caspian, heir to the throne of Narnia and gather the Narnians to reclaim Narnia, culminating in a very big, dramatic battle.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was a very good fantasy movie.  Though it didn’t exactly rise up to the heights of the Lord of the Rings, it contained a good story and moral undertone.

Prince Caspian is all entertaining, fantasy action fun.  Andrew Adamson, the director who also directed the previous film, doesn’t overtake Narnia as his own thing, but keeps it traditional to the books.  Though Adamson keeps true to the books, he doesn’t keep near all of the magic as previously, rather giving Prince Caspian a darker undertone.

Prince Caspian wasn’t what the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe exactly was, though it was a compelling, adequate sequel that was thoroughly enjoyable fantasy adventure.
