Jaws 2 (1978, PG)

Just when you thought it was safe get back into the water….outcomes Jaws 2 made entirely because of the critical and box-office success of the first Jaws.  The unnecessary sequel fails to match up to the original.
Steven Spielberg was asked to return to direct this sequel, but he did refuse saying that he had made ‘the definite shark movie’.  I don’t know even if Spielberg did direct Jaws 2 if it would be better or not.
This time, there is another shark terrorizing Amity Island, going on a killing spree and causing basically what we saw in the original.  Jaws 2 does offer some tense moments, but it moves along a little slowly until we get to the end third of the film with a bunch of teenagers stuck out in the water in little boats with the shark taking out the kids one by one until Brody, the hero of the first film, comes to their rescue.  Once again the shark isn’t shown too inexplicably much, keeping the tense suspension.
Jaws 2 is not a classic.  It doesn’t really offer anything new that we saw from the original classic Jaws.  Nor was it as entertaining or memorable as the original; it kept mostly the same formula yet it just wasn’t as good as the first.
Grade: C+
